Florence McDonald

After college and travelling, Florence moved back to Ireland and started working in a bank but please don’t hold that against her – she eventually saw the light and here she is! She used to read PDF books on her work computer during lunch and one day she thought ‘wouldn’t it be great if this was my job’, so after months of applying to various book related organisations, she finally got an internship with Penguin Random House Ireland. She cleared out her desk and never looked back. After her internship, she started working in Literature Ireland, and is now the Communications Officer there. At around the same time she began helping out CBI. As one would expect with all the reading, it is a dangerous job where sore eyes and paper cuts from reading too much are an everyday occurrence but someone has to do it!

Childhood Classic

The Complete Illustrated Stories of the Brothers Grimm. Since I can remember, I always pulled this large tome from the bookshelf and would sit on the floor and read it for hours while also looking at the beautiful black and white illustrations by Edward Henry Wehnert. The book still sits on the bookshelf at home and whenever I see it, it instantly reminds me of those childhood days. The stories are often sinister and mysterious, and are supposedly not suitable for children but I think that’s what drew me in. I still enjoy reading dark stories and I really believe this book influenced my reading taste buds.
