Oíche Chiúin – Scéal Amhrán Mór na Nollag

Is deacair le creidiúint nach cuid bhuan de thradisiúin na Nollag an bhí an t-amhrán “Oíche Chiúin” i gcónaí. Cé gur fonn tábhachtach é ag gach uile aifreann na Nollag, áfach, is óg an t-amhrán fós agus sa leabhar Oíche Chiúin – Scéal Amhrán Mór na Nollag, foghlaimímid faoi stair agus faoi chúlra suntasach an amhráin mór le rá.

Breathnaíonn muid siar dhá chéad bliain le cabhair ón maisiúchán álainn sa leabhar, ag taisteal trasna na farraige go dtí an Ostair, áit inar d’oibrigh sagart agus muinteoir ceoil óg le chéile le ceann de na hamhráin is cáiliúla ar an domhan a chumadh.

Is beag a cheap an bheirt áirithe seo go mbeadh tionchar ollmhór ag an amhrán éasca gearr ar dhaoine thart timpeall an domhan agus taispeáineann an leabhar seo an turas fada atá déanta aige ó shéipéal amháin i mbaile beag san Ostair go chuile séipéal ag gach uile cearn den domhan ar Lá na Nollag. Is scéal é seo ar scaipeadh an dóchais ag tréimhsí deacra i saol na hEorpa agus an dóchas a scaip ar aghaidh arís go tíortha eile.

Bainfidh chuile duine idir an t-aos óg agus daoine ag dul in aois suaimhneas síoraí as an leabhar draíochtúil seo. Bheadh sé inléite do léitheoir 10+ agus leithscéal deas ag tuismitheoirí, múinteoirí agus daoine fásta eile araon siúil siar ar bhóthar na gcuimhneachán agus é á léamh do pháistí níos óige. Is leabhar foirfe é le cur i gcuimhne dúinn go léir an tábhacht a bhaineann le dóchas, le síocháin agus le comhluadar maith ag an tréimhse speisialta seo den bhliain.

It’s hard to believe that the famous song Silent Night was not always a permanent fixture in Christmas tradition. Despite it now being an important carol at every Christmas service, the song is still relatively young and in the book Oíche Chiúin – Scéal Amhrán Mór na Nollag, we learn the story behind its composition.

We take a look back to a small village in Austria, where a young priest and music teacher worked together in creating one of the best known Christmas carols of all time. Little did they know that their simple melody and easy to remember lyrics were to have such an effect and that they would travel to all corners of the world, warranting translation into many different languages. All of this stemming from one little church in Austria. This book is first and foremost a story of the spread of hope through song throughout difficult periods in Europe’s history and how Silent Night was to become a lyrical carrier of hope throughout the centuries.

This book is a joy for all ages with beautiful illustrations and a magical story that will be easily read by children of 10+ and a fantastic excuse for teachers, parents and other grownups alike to look back on their own memories in reading the story to those younger. This is the perfect book to rekindle the true spirit of Christmas throughout this special time of year; the spirit of hope, of peace, and of community.
