CBI has been bringing the Book Clinic to families since 2011, assisting children to find the next book they will love. The Book Clinic has brought CBI to arts venues, Christmas markets, shopping centres and schools! We are delighted to announce our Book Clinic tour for 2015 which will bring the Book Clinic all over the island of Ireland. Partly funded by the Arts Council, the Book Clinic tour will allow CBI to reach families in all corners of the country, bringing a love of reading for pleasure everywhere! The list of venues we’re visiting is very long: dlr LexIcon, Ballina Arts Centre, Roscommon Arts Centre, Lisburn’s Island Arts Centre, the Belfast Children’s Festival, Glór in Ennis, the Humdinger! Festival in Derry, Riverbank Arts Centre, Cúirt International Festial of Literature in Galway, Drogheda Arts Centre, Dublin Writer’s Festival, Bloom, Roscommon Arts Centre, Cork Midsummer Festival and the West Cork Literary Festival. Keep an eye on the events section of our website to find out when we’re going to be in your town.
In a new initative, the Doodle Doctors will be accompanying the Book Doctors to several of these locations. Based in the Book Clinic waiting room, the Doodle Doctor undertakes an initial illustrative diagnosis of young readers, noting their findings in a Reading Passport which the patient can then bring to the Book Doctor. The Book Doctor undertakes a short consultation, chatting to young readers about books they love, before completing a stamping a book prescription which can be brought to the local bookshop or library. The Book Clinic is free-of-charge and a drop-in activity for children and families or all kinds. We very much look forward to taking the Book Clinic on the road in 2015 and hopefully will see you there!
