Clémentine Beauvais, the multi-award-winning French novelist and literary translator, is speaking at Children’s Books Ireland’s Conference, Belonging, this September. From her mystery series, Sesame Seade, to her most recent romance novel, In Paris with You, Clémentine has demonstrated an incredibly versatile voice that not only speaks to a wide range of age groups, but also moves between languages.
Having won the Prix Sorcières, France’s most prestigious Children’s Book Award, for her coming-of-age novel, Piglettes, Clémentine has proven herself to be a talented and unique writer. This novel, which tells the story of three French girls going on a road trip after being voted the ugliest girls at their school by their classmates, is just one example of Clémentine’s ability to tell stories that see the value in humour and unexpected heroes.
And, of course, not to be forgotten is her work as a translator, which sees her working, in her own words “to create a literature that joyfully, weirdly and, sometimes, nonsensically, celebrates the impossibility of maintaining watertight boundaries between literary languages in the first place.”
An author who truly understands the many ways to tell a story, Clémentine is sure to have something interesting to say. We are thrilled to have her speaking at our conference this year, and know that she is not to be missed!
