Aggie Witchfinder
Aggie is very excited. She is going witch finding for the very first time. Her father, Daddy Witchfinder, is the best witch finder of all and he is going to show Aggie exactly how it is done. The pair set off happily into the forest and Daddy shares his wisdom setting tasty traps and playing music that witches can’t help but dance to. While no witches make an appearance, Aggie enjoys tasting his delicacies and grooving to his tunes. Maybe there’s a witch closer by then they think?
This is a wonderfully unique story with instantly loveable characters. There are lots of little witchy elements to be found in the illustrations, from broomsticks to black cats, but it’s not a spooky story: its tone is homely and earthy. The warm autumnal colours of the forest mixed with the blues and purples used to depict Daddy Witchfinder and Aggie’s characters make for the most beautiful colour palette.
Readers will gain some valuable insights into how best to find a witch, and they will have enjoy many a laugh as they do. There is humour and fun throughout Aggie’s story but there’s also a gentleness to the father daughter relationship as they share this adventure together. A bewitching début from Sarah Hannah Walsh, one that is sure to enchant readers big and small.
