Irish Arts Center (NYC) and Children’s Books Ireland announce a call for proposals for workshops to be led by an author and/or illustrator from Ireland for the 4th Annual
Rí Rá Festival of Literature to be held in New York City on June 2nd, 2019.
For the past three years Irish Arts Center and Children’s Books Ireland have worked together to produce an event that brings children and families together to creatively engage with literature. The festival encourages readers tall and small to discover new books, talk with the authors and illustrators who create them, and nurture a lifetime love of reading, writing, illustration and storytelling. This year’s festival will take place on Sunday, June 2nd 2019 at Irish Arts Center in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. It will bring together a select group of authors and/or illustrators from both sides of the Atlantic to lead workshops that focus on engagement with reading, writing, or illustration for 5–8-year-olds. The festival also provides an opportunity for authors/illustrators to promote and share new work published in print for children.
What IAC are Looking For
Workshop proposals from authors and/or illustrators (40 minutes in length) that engage 5–8-year-olds in reading, writing, or illustration. Please be as specific as possible about what will take place in the workshop and how it will engage youth aged 5–8 years. Preference will be given to proposals that focus on participatory “hands-on” youth and family engagement. We would like to have a sense of what a child’s experience in the workshop would be.
What IAC Offer
Those proposals selected will be featured at the 4th Annual Rí Rá Festival of Children’s Literature. Authors/illustrators based in Ireland will receive round-trip economy travel to New York City, ground transportation from hotel to airport, and two night’s accommodation in central Manhattan, as well as a modest honorarium.
There will be an opportunity to publicize and sell work at the event and network with other authors and illustrators.
How to Apply
Proposals are due by March 1st, 2019 and should be emailed (in Word or PDF format) to firstname.lastname@example.org. The selected proposal will be announced by April 15th, 2019.
Please see guidelines for submissions below.
