Today, Children's Books Ireland publishes its Impact Report 2022.

This is an in-depth review of the work we carried out last year to inspire young readers and champion excellent Irish books.

A year of reconnection and growth

Thanks to our members, funders, sponsors and donors, we reached over 350,000 young readers in 2022 and, for another consecutive year, gifted our highest ever volume of books.

Our Raising Voices programme nurtured six promising authors and illustrators from minority communities and underrepresented backgrounds, while Picture This, our reading guide celebrating illustrated books, encouraged young readers to read wordless or heavily illustrated books.

As Irish authors and illustrators felt the cost-of-living crisis affect their income streams and work opportunities, we provided over €130,000 in commissions, award prizes and workshop fees.

We also expanded the reach of our popular Book Clinics, with over 500 children receiving a prescription for their next great read in 2022.

'Children’s Books Ireland is known as a busy, dynamic, impactful organisation, and we do a lot – but always focused on our vision. In 2022, we focused on rebuilding connections with our community in person and maintaining the inclusivity that working online brought – for our audiences, the artists we work with and our team.

'This report is an opportunity to celebrate our successes, take stock of what more needs to be done and, perhaps most importantly, to thank our supporters. Without our members, funders, sponsors and donors, we could not do what we do.'

– Elaina Ryan, CEO of Children's Books Ireland

Support our work

Children’s Books Ireland is a well-established charity with an ambitious team, and we are determined to change lives through reading. Our work helps to level the playing field for those who do not have a culture of reading in their homes. We give expert advice on great books to families so that they can excite young readers.

We also bring artists and readers together, creating unforgettable experiences and helping authors’ and illustrators’ careers to flourish. With your help, we can do even more for those who need us most, especially those experiencing disadvantage in schools, families and communities.

Every gift, regardless of size, is sincerely appreciated by Children’s Books Ireland as we strive to ensure that every child can experience the joy of reading.
