Children's Books Ireland, funded by the Arts Council, has chosen ten Irish children's illustrators and paired them with their local bookshops across Ireland this Irish Book Week. Each illustrator has designed and painted a bookshop window in their own style, creating an accessible, impermanent work of art. Each bookshop consulted with customers about what they want to see created in the window of their local bookshops in Dublin, Sligo, Wexford, Waterford, Meath, Wicklow and Cork. During Irish Book Week, members of the public will have a unique view of an artwork in progress in their community.

Featuring Fatti Burke, Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, Linda Fahrlin, Olivia Golden, Chris Judge, Tarsila Krüse, PJ Lynch, Oisín McGann, Lauren O'Neill and Una Woods, the shop fronts will be a celebration of Irish talent in some fabulous bookshops across the country. Irish Book Week celebrates Irish authors, Irish publishers, Irish interest books, and the bookshops that play such a vital role in championing and supporting Irish books. Throughout the week there are virtual and in-store events, displays as well as signed stock available in stores. Children's Books Ireland is the national charity and arts organisation that champions every child's right to develop a love of reading. This funding from the Arts Council allows the organisation to connect Irish illustrators directly with young readers.

The ten bookshops involved (Liber, Sligo; Waterstones, Cork; Hodges Figgis, Dublin; An Siopa Leabhar, Dublin; The Book Centre, Wexford; Gutter Bookshop, Dublin 2; Halfway Up The Stairs, Wicklow; Books Upstairs, Dublin; Antonia's Bookstore, Meath and The Book Centre, Waterford) canvassed customers and social media followers to help chose a theme for the window, making every window unique – another exciting reason to visit your local bookshop and explore some of Ireland's amazing illustrators!
