The lineup for CBI Conference 2016 is now available! This year’s theme Better Together? Collaboration and Teamwork in Children’s Books looks at the pleasures and pains of working collaboratively. Sometimes viewed as a solitary pursuit, creating a book for publication is essentially a collaborative process. We have invited creative teams, a family and those who create in solitude to address the question, are we better working together?
Irish picture book maker Oliver Jeffers‘ first visit to the CBI conference was in 2005 upon publication of his first picture book, How to Catch a Star. He has since gone on to publish several more titles, win almost every award going including both the CBI Book of the Year Award and the Children’s Choice Award in 2015 for Once upon an Alphabet. This year he returns to the conference with creative partner Sam Winston in tow. Sam is known for his typographical work, cutting and pasting a variety of texts to reveal something new. His work has been exhibited around the world. Oliver and Sam have worked together on A Child of Books, due to be published by Walker Books in September. We’re very much looking forward to getting an insight into how these two bookmakers work together and the teamwork involved in creating such a beautiful title. Listen back here to get a flavour in advance of September! And don’t forget, Early Bird members only conference tickets at €100 are available at 01 8727475, with day tickets and tickets for non-members available here. In the meantime enjoy the book trailer:
