Baby Book Club
Are you a parent or guardian looking for books related to your child’s interests, or recommendations to help them branch out into new genres? Are you an early years educator looking for books on a particular theme or topic? Look no further than our themed reading lists for a huge variety of brilliant book recommendations for children of all ages!
As reading has many benefits, it is never too early to read to your baby. A captive audience in those first few months, the sound of your voice and the rhythm of the words will help to soothe both you and baby, as well as deepen your bond. The regular practice of reading can aid a baby’s listening skills, language skills and their comprehension.
For babies who struggle with tummy time, or toddlers on the go, a good book can be the perfect companion and distraction. For little ones experiencing the world for the first time, a book is the safest place to learn about milestones such as potty training, haircuts and bedtime routines.
The Baby Book Club recommended reading list is a guide to fiction and non-fiction stories that are designed to delight and engage the youngest bookworms. Selected with joy in mind, just as much as the many benefits that reading can bring, we hope this list will help your little one to find their very first favourite book.
This is a curated list of 24 titles aimed at babies, toddlers and young children up to 4 years old as selected by our Publications Officer and with the assistance of our reviewers under the assigned theme. It is by no means an exhaustive list and we have tried, where possible, to include a spread of genres under this theme.
Our policy is to include titles dating from five years to date in English and ten years to date in the Irish language. Any titles by an Irish author, illustrator, publisher or in the Irish language will be denoted with a shamrock.
