Bear's Lost Glasses

From our very first glimpse of Bear, readers are instantly amused as he searches for his glasses, which we can see perched upon his head. On his way to track them down, Bear mistakes objects like trees and shrubs for other animals such as deer, a flamingo and even a crocodile.

Each page plays on shape, colour and form to ignite our imaginations. Negative space heightens this effect, as the spot illustrations are carefully crafted with clear silhouettes to create defined shapes of both what Bear interprets and what we see from our perspective. We discover along the way that what we construe with our imagination is often far more intriguing than recognising what’s really there.

We’ve all misplaced something that has turned up in the most obvious location and the last place we look; it’s a simple and playful concept that is conveyed cleverly with every page turn. The characters are funny and expressive, from Bear’s slightly chaotic, yet lovable nature, to the skepticism and patience of his good friend Giraffe. We can relate to both as they depict this world in such distinct ways.

Readers will enjoy being in the know, while Bear remains clueless about the situation, he finds himself in. A hilarious and intelligent exploration of dramatic irony that fully engages the audience as we follow Bear on a journey of antics that we can both laugh and sigh at.
