Class Reads (Secondary School)
Are you a secondary school teacher looking for inspiration for your next class novel?
The Class Reads recommended reading list is aimed at secondary school aged readers and is a guide to books that will make reading aloud in class, or selecting a class novel a fun, immersive, and thought-provoking experiences for teen readers.
Our Publications Manager and our Education & Advocacy Manager, with the assistance of our reviewers, have selected 24 titles aimed at secondary school readers aged 11–18 years that will bring joy into your classroom, opening up chances for discussion, learning, and imaginative exploration of important themes and issues, across the secondary school curriculum.
Including fiction, non-fiction, verse novels, graphic novels and Irish language titles, there is a book to appeal to readers with a variety of interests and reading abilities. Highlighted alongside these fantastic books are a number of links to useful teaching resources and relevant activities to further enhance the reading experience in your classroom.
This is by no means an exhaustive list and we have tried, where possible, to include a spread across age ranges and genres to bring reading for joy into every classroom. Our policy is to include titles dating from five years to date in English and ten years to date in the Irish language. Any titles by an Irish author, illustrator, publisher or in the Irish language will be denoted with a shamrock.
