Dead Teenager Movie

When April is invited to spend the weekend in a remote country house with the handsome Carl and his wealthy friends, the offer seems too good to refuse – even with a spate of recent killings making headlines in Cork. But when a masked killer shows up at their door and begins to hunt her new friends for sport, April will have to rely on everything she’s learned from horror films to survive the night.

Dead Teenager Movie is a perfect read for those new to horror, as well as those already intimately familiar with the genre. Delightfully self-aware, it references many tropes of the slasher subgenre, and more seasoned horror fans will recognise the chapter titles as names of famous horror films. However, no prior knowledge is required to enjoy this fast-paced thriller, which takes place over the course of a single day and cleverly uses alternating points of view to build tension. April is a resourceful and pragmatic protagonist easy to root for, and the motives and allegiances of the other characters will keep the reader guessing throughout the novel. Cliffhanger chapter endings make it a quick and propulsive read, and there’s no shortage of twists and turns right up until the final page.

While this book does have a body count, the descriptions of violence are not graphic and are therefore suitable for younger teen readers. Dead Teenager Movie is perfect for fans of the Scream franchise and Bury Your Friends by Benjamin Dean.
