The Dinosaur Next Door
Everybody in the neighbourhood thinks that Mr Wilson is just a normal guy doing normal things like riding his bike, wearing a hat and working in the local bakery. Indeed, everybody thinks that the only remarkable thing about him is that he’s really, really good at baking delicious cakes. Everybody that is, except for dinosaur expert, Liz.
Liz is positive that her next-door-neighbour is secretly a dinosaur in disguise – he does have a long green neck and a taste for nibbling leaves, in fairness! But will anybody believe her? And if they do, is that necessarily a good thing?
This is a heartwarming story about difference, acceptance and being true to yourself. Mr. Wilson is a kind, gentle character that anyone would love to have as a neighbour and he provides a wonderful counterpoint to other characters who are a little too quick to judge or eager to use the situation to their own advantage. The illustrations are gloriously light-filled, and the use of blues, greens and sunset colours make this book a warm and inviting read. The endpapers and bakery scenes will set mouths watering and there are several gasp-inducing page-turns too.
This sweet picturebook is perfect for your little dino fan or cake lover!
