Finding Mister Tibbles
A young boy is searching for his missing pet and decides to visit each of his five unconventional neighbours; a police officer, two clowns, a cowboy, a mermaid, and a dragon; to ask if they’ve seen him.
Each neighbour has a fabulously unique house, designed as a lift-the-flap which readers can open and explore for themselves, searching through all the rooms for any clues that Mister Tibbles was there. Sadly, none of the neighbours have seen Mr Tibbles, but just as the boy begins to give up hope, a stripey tail can be spotted in a tree – it’s Mister Tibbles! Reunited with his pet, we also get a bonus tour of the narrator’s distinctive home on the final page.
This clever lift-the-flap book will delight readers of all ages. Peering into each neighbour’s house creates a treasure-hunt style story as readers explore the rooms of each residence. The illustrations are richly detailed, with plenty to discover and discuss on every page, and are filled with warmth, humour and imagination. The surprising characters and wonderfully quirky homes give every stop on the journey its own personality, making exploration as enjoyable as the search itself.
All of the descriptions of Mister Tibbles being orange and stripey, having tickly whiskers, and the child’s doodles of cats, give the impression that Mister Tibbles is a house cat, but he’s a feline of a very different sort! This surprising twist is both hilarious and cleverly foreshadowed, rewarding readers who look closely at the illustrations and inviting them to revisit the book with fresh eyes.
