Follow Me, Moon

Follow the moon through the seasons as a child looks up at it from their many adventures. In springtime the moon overlooks days filled with blossoms and bike rides, in summer there are funfair balloons and sailing boats, autumn brings warming soup and fancy dress, and in winter there are snowmen to build and a Christmas tree to bring home. Throughout it all, the moon remains as a constant, reassuring presence.

The story is told in minimal rhyming text, with just 5 or 6 words per double page, yet those expertly chosen words succinctly and effectively conjure up relatable memories and experiences. The short sentences are perfect for short attentions spans and give lots of opportunity to talk about the illustrations and children’s own experiences of the seasons.

The wood-block style artwork in bold primary shades, with a cherubic rosy-cheeked child make this book feel like a familiar timeless classic. The cool blue tones of the night-time scenes give the story a soothing feel, whilst the pops of bright yellow bring interest to each page. Children will enjoy spotting the moon as it appears on each page, often playfully disguised within the scene.

The ever-present moon is a comforting companion throughout the book, and its quiet presence throughout the seasons, make this a calming bedtime story. This book would make a thoughtful gift and is sure to become a cherished part of any child’s bookshelf.
