Gold Medal Mysteries: Racing for Revenge
Three teen detectives try to discover who is sabotaging a cycling race in this third instalment in the Gold Medal Mysteries series. The story begins with our heroes Hannah, Maria, Seb and their adult chaperone Lucas, attending the Grand Prix in Monaco before travelling to London and on to France to follow the Grand Euro Cycle. Their interest is quickly piqued when a suspicious series of misfortunes befall the Team BB group of cyclists.
Earlier books in this series followed the trio on sporting detective adventures in Tokyo and Miami, but readers will not need to have read those stories to enjoy this book. It is written by Paralympian swimmer Ellie Robinson and will certainly appeal to children with an interest in sports. There are many references to how cycling and Formula 1 races are held but this also reads as a mystery story for those who are less familiar with both sports. The author presents a diverse group of friends and notes in passing that Hannah has a limb difference. This doesn’t slow her down – in fact, Hannah is the ringleader of the group and is constantly urging her friends to keep up.
This is a fast-paced read that will take readers on an fun adventure throughout Europe as the trio try to solve the mystery.
