The Good Night Airport

As night falls over Motor Isle and the people settle down to sleep, the workers and vehicles at the Good Night Airport are just beginning their long shifts. This vehicle picturebook brings children behind the curtain to learn about all the busy vehicles that work hard throughout the night carrying out important night jobs that keep the airport running smoothly.

Kosara uses a simple but effective rhyming scheme which helps to keep the young reader engaged with the story. And her use of onomatopoeia words like ‘woosh’ ‘gurgle’ and ‘splosh’ adds a bit of charm to the less glamorous vehicles such as the Runway Cleaner and the Lavatory Truck – Lavatory truck being one of my favourites! The charm of the story is strengthened by Rojas Castro’s illustrations which are both vibrant and visually appealing. Rojas Castro doesn’t hold back, and each vehicle is given a two-page spread which is packed full of characters and images. These images add another depth to the story and are the perfect accompaniment to Kosara’s text, offering children an opportunity to pause and explore each scene. Rojas Castro has skilfully portrayed the characters as pragmatic while also capturing an adorable cuteness that will surely keep the young reader wanting to return to their favourite time and again.

This book is sure to bring joy and delight to children who like reading about vehicles and learning about life in the real-world. Personally, I love it.
