The Neverland Thieves

Over a century later and it is like we never left Neverland. This reprise of Peter Pan and Wendy’s story takes the characters and places readers love most and reimagines them in today’s generation. This time, Neverland is in trouble, and together with his two friends, Tom must come to its rescue and find out who has been stealing from its inhabitants. But as it turns out, the children need the help of the infamous island just as much as it needs theirs.

This story is more than a simple retelling of the old tale. In this story new characters await, new adventures can be found and although the cast is not that of the original tale, the novel makes sure to stay true to the quirks and characteristics that made them so special the first time.

While the writing style remains easy enough for the older end of middle-grade readers to understand, its incorporation of humour and mystery makes it an appealing read even for a pre-teen audience. The novel’s exploration of various themes also speaks to readers in a multitude of ways. Whether it is learning the importance of honesty, challenging the boundaries of reality, or finding strength in friendship, as well as in yourself, you are sure to find an aspect in this book that speaks to you personally.

And as if bringing back the magic of Neverland is not enough to make this book special, Kister’s whole-page illustrations make the whimsy of the story come alive that much more. Overall, this is a lovely addition to the story of Neverland, as well as to Great Ormond Street Hospital’s legacy.
