Nowhere for a Ghost to Sleep
This is the story of one very tired little ghost and her search for a place to take a snooze. Little Ghost tries lots of different spots and meets a host of characters, but no one will let her land and have a rest. They are all frightened and much too wary of the Little Ghost, even though she hasn’t given them any reason to be.
Told through rhyming text this is a kooky story filled to the brim with humour and a delightful ghost main character that readers will be rooting for from the outset. She is a smiley ghost, with freckles and a charming bowler hat who only wants the chance to count some sheep in her sleep. It turns out however, that all she needed was one sheep to save the day! The illustrations are a mix of digital illustration and collage which adds wonderful texture to the imagery. The sheep’s coat is perfectly cloud like, soft and inviting. The illustrations are vibrant and use colour in interesting ways. As the reader goes deeper into the story the characters stand out vividly on the black background which depicts the night sky.
This is the third collaboration by this author and illustrator and there is a quirky timelessness to the stories that they tell together. From peachicks to tired ghosts, their work is filled with the wacky and wonderful. Little Ghost shouldn’t have any trouble finding a resting place on shelves upon its release.
