Pablo and Splash: Viking Voyage
Those lovable penguins, Pablo and Splash, are back again for another wild adventure. This is the fifth book in Sheena Dempsey’s popular graphic novel series about two daring time travellers who also happen to be penguins!
Benji the penguin and his gang are determined to steal Professor O’Brain’s time machine. After they find out all about Vikings from Pablo and Splash, Benji’s gang sneak on board the time machine and time-travel back to Viking Ireland. They end up on board a longboat full of Vikings setting out to attack an unsuspecting monastery. Luckily, Pablo and Splash have a new time machine to follow Benji back in time and warn the monks that trouble in on the way and rescue a priceless manuscript from the Vikings.
The illustrations are full-colour and full of fun with cute and cheeky penguins. There’s lots happening visually, but not so much that the pages get too crowded. The detail in the Viking costumes and boats is wonderful. This is a great introduction to the graphic novel format with no walls of text, easy to follow conversations, and short chapters.
This fast-paced adventure is full of jokes and Viking facts. Highly recommended this book for reluctant readers and children who like lots of action and excitement in their reading.
