Kurara has spent her entire life as a servant aboard the Midori, a flying ship serving the military elite of the Mikoshiman Empire, a world comprised of floating cities. Kurara has also been hiding a secret, she possesses a unique ability: the power to make folded paper figures come to life. When the Midori is attacked Kurara’s secret is revealed as a highly valued power throughout the empire and she is forced into a perilous escape.
This leads Kurara to Himura aboard the Orihime, a stern individual who becomes her mentor. She learns to hone her skills as a Crafter, and in hunting Shikigami – magical creatures made of paper. But, are Shikigami just pieces of paper, or do they have the ability to think and feel for themselves?
The intricacies of the political system, the concept of paper magic and Shikigami, and the depiction of flying cities and ships alongside the crew’s pirate-inspired characteristics are all thoroughly developed.
