Rónán and the Mermaid
Marianne McShane’s tale is a celebration of old Irish storytelling. The echoes of the Ireland’s ancient past find new life in her account of the Mermaid Saint from the Belfast Lough. We are swept up in the stories of Líban the Mermaid and of the boy Rónán, she saves from drowning. When the boy is left ashore, he is found and cared for by the monks of Bangor Abbey. Though his life is full of tender joy, Rónán longs to meet his saviour again and to repay her kindness.
