Navigating loss can be tough. Sixteen-year-old Noori’s grief is made even tougher as family tensions rise, leaving her feeling completely alone. Seventeen-year-old Aamir is running away from his past, and his grief. Over a week, the two become intertwined. Bonding over their shared love of Rumi’s poetry, their feelings of isolation and the unexpected invisible thread that links them together.
Noori is certainly not the most loveable protagonist, she is temperamental, sensitive, and often unkind to her parents. As the story unfolds readers will see great growth for Noori as she transforms from feeling like an impostor, referring to herself as hybrid, to a young adult who is proud of her culture and heritage. Throughout the course of the novel both teenagers embark on an exploration of cultural identity and familial history to understand the deep-rooted beliefs their parents hold. Like the pair, readers will be left feeling hopeful that miracles dwell in the invisible and inspired to look for hope in unexpected places.
