Rex always has a genius, if not risky, plan up his sleeve. His mighty courage is uplifting as he jumps straight into each adventure. The contrasting characters between Rex and his story guide, Fred the Ferret, may speak to some young readers. While Rex is brave and curious, Fred is hesitant and tactical, unsure about Rex’s plans, yet he leaps with Rex every step of the way! Although Rex visited the Story Shop to have adventures, he became the maker of his own tales. Neal’s illustrations are lively and a great addition to the story, seamlessly melding with the text, in a style that brings fun to the spooky adventures and brightens up the pages.
