Full of interesting facts, this book is a collection of the world’s most bizarre jobs, from olden times to today, from the downright dangerous to the cushy. Each job is given different levels of detail and facts making it ideal for reluctant readers who prefer to read non-fiction by dipping in and out of a book.
While the book is full of interesting human figures like the first Black pilot Bessie Coleman, it also features animals from toads assisting medical conmen to mine-finding rats and dogs warning of poison gas attacks during World War I. All of the stories are filled with jokes and puns that even grown-ups will enjoy while sharing this book with young readers.
Höllbacher’s illustration only adds to this humour. Sections are laid out in different formats that suit the information present. For example, jobs that have more information to suit a story, are laid out like comic strips, whereas sections listing different jobs with similar themes are laid out more like a picturebook with less detail. The illustrations reflect the characters or historical figures personality and even the animals get to speak for themselves through speech bubbles.
This is an excellent book for young curious minds of any reading age and for anyone wishing to see which bizarre job would suit them best, there is a very fun quiz at the end.
