A fast-paced adventure story of a group of young lads from Bray who find themselves in San Francisco for a film premiere. Leader of the pack is Luke, who has a vivid imagination that he puts to great use throughout the holiday. The boys end up on a tourist trip to Alcatraz and there rumble a couple of crooks wanted by the local police for years.
As well as the story of the boys’ adventures, the reader gets a rough guide to San Francisco’s best-known sights. Arthur Flynn’s writing style is quite stilted here and at odds with the vernacular used throughout by Luke and his friends. Nevertheless, there are several set pieces that will generate great excitement in the reader and keep them glued until the final feel-good denouement.
