Nell’s grandmother has always told her stories of the fairy folk, warning her about the dangers of the woods. But when her sister Gwen holds a party in the woods at night, Nell knows she must go to protect her but has no idea how. When an ancient myth repeats itself, Nell finds herself venturing through the mist and into the dark, threatening world of the Elven.

Initially, I found Mist difficult to sink my teeth into but James’s story develops into an action-packed adventure. The world beyond the mist was wonderfully atmospheric and the plot was a brilliant mix of adventure, magic and folklore. Nell is a likeable protagonist and Evan, the mysterious boy from the forest, is fascinating.

Mist is an enthralling, enchanting read with great characters and a brilliant setting. I look forward to reading more of this spellbinding tale in the forthcoming Frost.
