The Monster From The Blue Planet

Little Zaleb loves nothing more than her grandfather’s stories of faraway planets and the strange monsters that live there. Her favourite is about a beautiful blue planet called Earth. When she receives a small spaceship for her birthday, Zaleb takes off through space, determined to capture her own Earth monster and bring it home for a pet! Zaleb is in for a big surprise. Some creatures are not meant to be pets… but friends? Maybe. Soon, she and Izzy, the monster from the Blue Planet, are having the most wonderful adventures, as they meet some very unusual characters and one little girl has a wish come true!

A fun-loving, charming story, this deals with issues of friendship and responsible action in a manner that the youngest readers can understand while being entertained and amused at the same time. The story is well conceived and filled with quirky humour. There are surprises peppered through the tale that hold the reader’s interest and excitement. And the characters are bound to become favourites. The illustrations are rendered in a limited palette, but add enjoyment and assist comprehension of the text. Designed for young dyslexic or struggling readers, this is more than a simple reading ‘primer’. The titles in the Barrington Stoke Little Gems range are all conceived and devised so that they are more than suitable for all beginner readers, whether reluctant or enthusiastic. This is one of the best examples of that mission. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
