Say What You Pay: Transparency on Artists' Pay

We stand behind the Arts Council’s policy of Paying the Artist, for the fair and equal contracting and payment of artists.
We also believe in transparency, and have published our fee structure for artists on the Words Ireland website for many years.
As part of the Say What You Pay initiative launched by Match in the Dark, we are happy to display this information below.
We publish event guidelines for venues including some fee guidelines, though these are not prescriptive. We also publish fee and conditions guidelines for digital events with children. This document was requested during the COVID-19 pandemic, when most events took place online.
We are working towards increasing fees for artists, making sure that authors, illustrators and storytellers are always paid appropriately for their work.
This could include:
- commissions
- school and library visits
- workshops
- conference presentations
- any other work, in person or online.
Rates will be based on the time needed to prepare and deliver the work, and conditions for use agreed. These will be laid out clearly from the start of the arrangement.
