School Book Gifting Applications open for 2021-2022

Children’s Books Ireland is delighted to announce a number of exciting book gifting programmes for schools in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.  

As well as the fifth annual Robert Dunbar Memorial Libraries and the second year of the Every Child A Reader Libraries, we have several new book gifting opportunities for schools . Throughout the 2021- 2022 school year, we will be supporting over 1300 schools with new books, with 14 schools receiving a big library donation and 34 schools working with artists to build excitement about reading. 

Check out the details of each project below and apply by 14 October 2021!  

Robert Dunbar Memorial Library – 4 available  

  • All primary and secondary schools in ROI and NI are eligible to apply.

Schools will receive:

  • A library of approx. 300 excellent books 
  • A Champion of Reading: an author, illustrator or storyteller to visit your school in person or digitally (approx. 3 visits, seeing 6 classes) 
  • Training for school staff on making the most of the school library 
  • Resources and support from Children’s Books Ireland including recommended reading guides 
  • Display materials including posters, stickers, bunting and bookmarks 

Every Child A Reader Library – 10 available  

  • All primary and secondary schools in ROI and NI are eligible to apply 

Schools will receive:

  • A library of approx. 250 excellent books 
  • A Champion of Reading: an author, illustrator or storyteller to visit your school in person or digitally (approx. 3 visits, seeing 6 classes) 
  • Training for school staff on making the most of the school library 
  • Resources and support from Children’s Books Ireland including recommended reading guides 
  • Display materials including posters, stickers, bunting and bookmarks 

Free To Be Me Little Library –35 available 

  • All primary schools in ROI and NI are eligible to apply.

Schools will receive:  

  • A diverse library of 100 books from the Free To Be Me reading guide 
  • Specially designed resource pack to support use of the books in the classroom 
    Display materials including posters, stickers bunting and bookmarks  

ROAD Forward  – 70 sets available 

  • Schools will receive 30 copies of the same book so that each student in 6th class will receive a copy to take home and keep 

Laureate na nÓg – An Bosca Leabharlainne funded by Foras na Gaeilge and the Arts Council  

  • 1,125 available 
  • All primary schools in ROI and NI are eligible to apply  
  • Gaelscoileanna and schools in Gaeltacht areas will be prioritised – these schools will be contacted directly.

Schools will receive:

  • A box of 25 excellent Irish Language books chosen by Laureate na nÓg Áine Ní Ghlinn 
  • Specially designed display and print resources on making the most of their books 
  • Pre-recorded video workshops by artists for all schools  
  • Up to twenty schools will also receive artist residencies, and will work with an author or illustrator to build excitement around reading as Gaeilge in their school.
