Children’s Books Ireland and the Smurfit Kappa Foundation are working together to support schools across the island of Ireland with resources and online activities.
Five schools have been chosen to receive hundreds of brilliant new books for their school libraries, alongside resources from Children’s Books Ireland, training for the school as well as an amazing artist as their school’s Champion of Reading. With the current COVID-19 crisis, school library handovers have been postponed but the Champions of Reading have been working hard to create excellent online content for their schools, to help keep the students in these schools creative, engaged with books and reading and entertained while they are learning from home.
The schools and their Champions of Reading are:
- Drimnagh Castle Primary School, Dublin with Juliette Saumande
- Firhouse Educate Together Secondary School, Dublin with Dave Rudden
- Ballinspittle National School, Cork with Olivia Golden
- Newtownmountkennedy Primary School, Wicklow with Sadhbh Devlin
- St Vincent de Paul Primary School, Belfast with Máire Zepf
As part of project, Juliette Saumande has created The Any-Book Book Club resource for the boys at Drimnagh Castle Primary School. This is a book club that can be done at home, with any book(s) available. We are making this available as a free download so that anyone can join in – you can download it here, or find it in the Resource Pack section on our website. Share your creations with us on social media using the #AnyBookClub, we’d love to see them!
Thanks to the Smurfit Kappa Foundation for supporting this initiative.
