The historic castle and town of Lismore provide the magical setting for the Towers and Tales children’s story festival, taking place on Saturday 18th April. Check out the website for the full lineup of children’s writers and illustrators including Philip Ardagh, Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, Shane Hegarty, Sarah McIntyre, Chris Riddell, Darren Shan and Niamh Sharkey and a visit from the CBI Book Clinic!
As part of the festival the Meet the Residents bespoke exhibition focuses on some of the characters human or other created by children’s authors and illustrators in the many best-selling books they have published. On view will be twenty five original paintings and drawings in all manners of media from pen and ink, watercolour and to oil paint that will fascinate and delight both young and old.
To complement the exhibition, visitors are invited to turn their own hand at creating a Lismore Resident of their very own. With paper and materials supplied you are invited you to draw your very own personality, monster or anything that comes to mind that you might think lives and lurks in the dungeons and doorways of Lismore Castle. This competition is eligible for those under 16, and end of the day Chris Riddell will kindly select his favourite three winning artworks of inspiringly ghoulish residents. The lucky winners will receive prizes as below.
