Children's Books Ireland International Conference

The Children's Books Ireland International Conference is a weekend-long celebration of the very best in children's books, held every year in September.

Author-illustrators Steve McCarthy and Paddy Donnelly explore artwork from Paddy Donnelly's 2022 title, 'Fox and Son Tailors', at the Children's Books Ireland International Conference 2022.

Taking place in the Light House Cinema, Dublin, our conference invites speakers from across the world of children's books to address our network of artists, booksellers, librarians, teachers and children's books experts.

Events include panels, discussions and talks, while coffee breaks and receptions provide opportunities for networking with key figures from the industry.

Each conference centres around a theme, with speakers and attendees invited to reflect on and discuss key issues in contemporary children's books.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, our conference was not held in 2020. In 2021, we held a hybrid event in collaboration with MoLI: The Museum of Irish Literature.

New Voices

Children’s Books Ireland is dedicated to celebrating and amplifying the work of debut Irish authors and illustrators. This includes a recurrent New Voices slot at our Annual International Conference, where debut children’s artists have the opportunity to present or read from their book alongside their peers. In 2023, Children’s Books Ireland selected eleven New Voices to take part – find out more at the link below.

Annual Children's Books Ireland Award

Every year at our conference, the presentation of the annual Children's Books Ireland award takes place. This award is made to an individual or organisation in recognition of an outstanding contribution to children's books. The recipient is nominated by the members of Children's Books Ireland in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the reading lives of children in Ireland.
