There are few things that give pre-schoolers more glee than transgressions in the form of toilet-humour. They will not be disappointed here.
Miura does not attempt to dress up his premise with a clever narrative or sophisticated artwork. The text is Spartan and the digital artwork is clear, bold and basic. There is no gesture of concession to the tastes of the adult reader – and for this Miura is to be commended.
Front and centre is the humour. The adult reading has to say ‘Bum bum’ over and over and over again. Night after night – as it is sure to be repeated. Once the children get the bare bones of reading skills they can lock themselves away in their room and read it themselves. You will hear the cackles of laughter through the walls.
