When Santa’s sleigh crashes through their ceiling at Christmas, three glamorous drag queens, Candy Kane, Connie Fir, Snow Ball and Candy’s young nephew Ollie help Santa to rediscover his sparkle by giving him a fabulous festive glow-up to help him find his joy and save Christmas.
Connemara author and illustrator Seán Casey brings us something rare with his début picturebook – an original take on a Christmas story. Cleverly spotting the potential to combine the glitter and glamour of drag queen life with the tinsel and glitz of the festive season, Casey finds a way to take a familiar tale of Santa in trouble and give it a modern, unexpected spin.
The story is an all-action tale from start to finish, using a gently rhyming text which appropriately adds musicality to the adventure as Ollie and the drag queens help Santa to get back on track by using their individual talents for singing, dancing, costumes and crafts to cheer him up and save Christmas. The fantastic illustrations are a riot of action and colour, bursting with personality and add enormously to the overall fun of the story.
The Sleigh Queens and Ollie are terrific characters that showcase kindness, inclusivity, happiness and joy which are qualities we can all appreciate at Christmas and at every stage throughout the year.
