My Mummies Built a Treehouse
A little boy and his mummies set off on a grand adventure together to build a treehouse and with imagination and hard work, they combine their skills as a family to make his dream come true. This is a gentle and warm story rooted in realism, with practicality at its core. The fact that the little boy has two mums is incidental and complementary to the story, rather than being the main focus.
The illustrations are three dimensional, full of colour and set as detailed panels. For non-readers they do a wonderful job of telling the story without the text and help to enliven the story. While the pages are busy and every inch of space is used, the palette is also soothing, and the characters soft.
This is a vibrant picturebook that shows some of the many ways parents can show their love for their children, I liked how real-world scenarios were depicted. When the little boy becomes over-excited and breaks something, instead of being scolded he is met with understanding by his mums and together they choose to not let the incident spoil the day. With enjoyable little touches of humour here and there, the treehouse ultimately becomes a gift for the entire community.
This book is for dreamers and those who make dreams a reality.
