Hiden Worlds: Magic Under the Bed
Hidden Worlds: Magic Under the Bed was written with children in hospital in mind, and it would work well for a busy mind in a place where there is a lot of staying still. Based around fantastical worlds populated by under-the-bed things such as fluffballs and socks, this is an engaging and beautifully illustrated activity book, with an excellent balance of story and puzzle activities.
The text is enthusiastic and encouraging in nature, and there are a range of interesting items to find and things to think about. The illustrations, by Olley are varied and layered and full of detail, there’s a lot to notice, and be distracted by. This reviewer can see parents and children using this book as a jumping off point for what-ifs, stories and daydreams to pass the time on a long day, and there are even a few mindfulness and self-regulation strategies, such as memory bubbles, built in to equip the child reader with tools to calm and stay positive. Apart from hospital trips, this book might also be useful on long car journeys also!
An engaging interactive story.
