In doing this, he is enabled to share what is unique and interesting and wonderful about himself to the benefit of all.

Sinha charts Til’s personal journey in a way that is highly relatable – if you aren’t actually a Til, then I bet you at least know one! This is not an easy journey, and it is born of intense frustration, but with some loving encouragement, Til tames the harmful burning and coaxes it into a glow. The role of friendship and understanding is gently and compassionately explored through the character of the star. The book’s illustrations add to the text with their intensity and fierce colour contrasts: the bold palette is atmospheric and enriching. The last, and wordless, spread is magnificent.

Tackling issues such as personal differences, self-acceptance, communication difficulties or possible neurodivergence where the tangible effects are negative needs a deft and charismatic hand. That is just what Sarthak Sinha displays here. This is a book that will find a place in many contexts from homes, to schools, to care settings.
