Irelandopedia: ABC

A beautiful boardbook, readers and parents may recognise the colourful illustrations and design from the original Irelandopedia, which taught young readers all about Ireland. Now, John and Kathi Burke have created a wonderful boardbook for pre-readers.

The illustrations are colourful, yet muted, on a white background. The simplicity in the style encourages calm reading time, letting the child focus on the letter and matching image. The book’s size makes it a perfect travel companion, fitting easily into a nappy bag or into the hands of a toddler who enjoys a read in the buggy!

This book can be accompanied by Irelandopedia 123, Colours, and Weather boardbooks too, all of which come in a bilingual English/Irish edition. These would make an excellent gift for new parents to enjoy with their budding booklover, or as a birthday present for eager pre-readers.

About the Author

John Burke is a retired primary school teacher and was Teaching Principal of Passage East National School from 1980 to 2009. He has taught all age groups during his career, but focused most of his teaching on the older classes. He lives in Waterford and has collaborated with his daughter Fatti on numerous books.

About the Illustrator

Kathi ‘Fatti’ Burke is an award-winning illustrator and artist. Her first book, Irelandopedia, won the Tubridy Show Listeners’ Choice Award at the Irish Book Awards 2015. She is also the illustrator of Foclóiropedia, Historopedia and the Little Library series, written by her dad, John Burke. Having lived in Amsterdam and Dublin, she is now back home in Waterford City.
