The Baboon with the Golden Bum

A welcome return for Seamus the turkey detective, as he is once again tasked with investigating some dodgy dealings. The Free Range Detective Agency (a.k.a. Seamus) is called to the rescue when security breaches threaten the Business Monkey of the Year’s top-secret money-making facilities. But who is behind the breaches – the baboon, the newt, the jackal or the toad?

A delightful spin on detective noir fiction, the series exists in a world where baboons are business men and turkeys are detectives. With an all-animal cast, this book could be a more mature version of Richard Scarry’s tales. The characters are as strange as one might expect, but they’re also pretty human in a lot of ways.

You can tell from the title that it is going to be a funny book, and the humour is delivered. The author has taken the genre and has squeezed as much fun as he can out of it, especially with the characters, the dialogue and Seamus’s inner monologue. Astute readers will also spot the different clues that will help them solve the intriguing mystery themselves before Seamus does.

The black and white illustrations complement the story perfectly and really capture how crazy the characters are and the noir world they live in. The Baboon with the Golden Bum is a great Irish book and another high quality offering from Little Island Books.
