Fright Club: Let's Boo This!
Are you looking for a sensitive read for your beloved pre-teen? Well, this book is not for you. However, if you are looking for fun, suspense, laugh-out-loud ridiculousness … if you like your (severed) fingers mysterious, independent-minded, green and putrid-smelling then this book is for you!
The first book in the Fright Club series introduces Joe Bones and his friends Hal, Debbie and Rose. The book starts with the death of Joe’s adored granny, Gretel; an event which kickstarts a series of adventures to hidden worlds and a host of ‘unusual’ characters to say the least. In the interest of transparency, I feel I should warn readers that Pounder really commits to the gross and the icky. Think pus-covered demons eating pus cakes and eggs that taste like ‘the jellied contents of a forgotten-to-be-flushed toilet’. Adding to this visceral adventure is the option to follow your character of choice choose-your-own adventure style and while this novel ploy adds interest, it can sometimes lead to a slightly disjointed story line. Really though, the big problem is that our hero Joe’s friends are more than they seem to be!
This book is a hoot! It starts at a rip-roaring pace and does not let up for the length of even one sentence. Sibéal Pounder has brought us an immersive encounter with a cooky, spooky world that defies description.
