Fear Files: Hide and Seek

Adam and Sol set off on a summer camping trip which turns out to be a bizarre and scary adventure … stumbling upon an abandoned ghost town, the friends find themselves in the middle of a terrifying game of hide and seek with unknown rules.

This book is packed with both short moments of jump-inducing suspense and quieter, atmospheric scenes. It pulls readers into the mystery world of the Darkive – a spooky archive of ghost stories and oddities. Similar to the Goosebumps series of the 90s, Edge blends sci-fi energy and horror with a modern, tech-twist which makes this book feel fresh and engaging. Visually, the book is fun with some scattered illustrations and inserted forensic files which make the reader feel as though they are really solving a paranormal case.

At 160 pages long, this short read is the perfect length and pace for kids to read in one go, but long enough to build real tension with creepy folklore, spontaneous flashlight chases and even ‘evidence files’. The ending surprises the reader and leaves us with uncertainty and hope for the next chapter of this fantastic series …

Highly recommended for reluctant readers or simply fans of a spooky campfire story.
