Clem Fatale Has Been Upstaged

The second novel in the Clem Fatale series opens with Clem and her friend Gilbert walking along on a summer’s day. Laden down with ice cream cones, talking about their favourite singing act who they are going to see in the London Palladium, when they are suddenly kidnapped off the street the action of this 1950s London adventure begins!

Our heroes are given the task of investigating the disappearance of a stage star and some valuable jewellery. This is not a difficult task for Clem, she is, after all, the youngest gangster  in London and she has many connections to the criminal world through her father, a successful jewel thief. Gilbert is from a more refined background and goes to boarding school, but remains steadfastly loyal to his friend Clem. Along the way they become entangled with a criminal mastermind, get to know some unscrupulous underworld figures, as well as those in showbusiness who have more to them than meets the eye.

Readers will enjoy gathering clues along the way and laugh at the many funny moments. The author paints a convincing picture of 1950s life in London, describing the theatre world, coffee houses, markets and back alleyways. The book is illustrated in black and white adding to the atmosphere of this story set-in post-war London and particular attention has been paid to clothing and hairstyles. This novel is a fun, fast paced, rollicking read for anyone who loves a good detective story.
