George and the Mini Dragon

Our main character, George, is a cheeky, happy-go-lucky kid who often seems to land himself in a pickle but always manages to pull himself out of it with a positive attitude and some quick thinking. Children will also adore two main themes of the book; magic and pets. The beginning of the book casually mentions George has Down Syndrome, something that doesn’t hold him back in the slightest, making this an excellently inclusive story – both a mirror for children with Down Syndrome who long to see themselves represented, as well as a reminder to others that these children are just as capable as anyone else. 

The doodles and illustrations that adorn the pages from Budgen are a strength of this book. Images full of action capture moments like when George is playing with his friends, and stink lines coming from the heap of clothes that Lava the mini dragon likes to sleep in. The illustrations bring the writing alive, emphasising the fun to be found throughout the story. 

All in all, this book is a sweet and substantial story for anyone that likes an entertaining misadventure, and in particular, any child who loves a book about dragons!
